The community park is open dawn to dusk throughout the year.
The Georgi on the Battenkill Community Park and Museum is pleased to announce the receipt of $2,000 in grant funds from the Glens Falls Foundation. This grant will be used to support the Planning Phase for Disability Access to the Museum building. With these funds, a land survey and architectural drawings will be commissioned. Coordinator, Wendy Bordwell, states “This is a very important and exciting step toward achieving the goal of Disability Access to the Museum. With the survey completed and drawings drafted, there are other grant and funding possibilities available that may propel us to the Construction Phase.” A capital campaign is planned in 2017 with hopes of generating resources for the construction aspect of the project. Members and Local businesses are being asked to contribute toward the ultimate goal of access for everyone to the facility.
The Georgi Museum is scheduled to re-open in October of 2017.
The facility has been closed since 2015 while mold abatement and renovations have been under way. During this dormant time, images of the Collection have been converted to digital format, allowing for access, exchange and research within the Academic and International art community. Previously unidentified, the Georgi has been able to connect three of its Italian Panel paintings to the artists that created them. Chris Daly of Johns Hopkins University is credited with identifying the works and has been invited to curate a full exhibit for the October re-opening. Bordwell says, “Although some folks have seen the Georgi Collection before, we will be opening the doors ready to offer new insights and information about the art and artists”. Additionally, the Gem and Mineral Collection will be showcased and featured. One other new twist is that the Museum will be available to rent for special events, memorials, and meetings!
