The Georgi Art Collection has several medieval paintings which have been moved to Climate Controlled storage during construction. Several pieces from the Collection are on display at the Plattsburgh Museum at SUNY, loaned for a two year period. The Gem and Mineral portion of the Georgi Collection is being assessed and catalogued by the Capital Region Gem and Mineral Club, and will be displayed in the refurbished Museum. The Museum will re-open to the public upon the completion of many necessary capital projects and improvements.
Chris Daly of Johns Hopkins University, a Glens Falls native, has identified the artist that painted our "Madonna and Child" as Neri Di Bicci. The image on the left is a DiBicci "Madonna and Child" currently at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The image on the right (#177) is on display at the Plattsburgh State Museum until next May, and is part of the Georgi Collection. Very exciting!
Several of the paintings in the Georgi Collection have little or no provenance. Over the years the Collection has been reviewed, but many have no defined artist, and have been assessed in very general terms (i.e. “in the style of...”). Connecting this painting to its creator is an important piece of the puzzle that is the Georgi Collection.
